I Want To Learn Self Defense

Motivation | Written By: Scott Mulhollen

My daughter loves to play soccer outside with her friends in the neighborhood. The enjoyment of the game and being one of the best among her friends led her to want to play on a regular team.

Before I signed her up at the local YWCA, I took my daughter to a practice squad in New Albany and had her watch what all is involved before an actual game is played. After a few hours we spoke with the coach about rules of the game and the role of responsibility of the player that they need to train and practice at home. My daughter realized that it was vastly different from the experience she had of playing outside with friends and decided to wait until she felt she could make that commitment.

My daughter’s original perception of soccer is similar to what people think of Self Defense. Movies and TV fail to show the level of dedication, training, and sacrifice that is involved just to master the foundation of the Art. To be blunt -

"It takes more than a few classes to be able to successfully defend yourself!”

Do not get sucked into the belief that a weekend warrior course is sufficient enough. Could you teach anyone what you know in your professional field within a day or even two for that matter? Self Defense training is no exception!

There’s not an advanced student at Dynamic Self-Defense that couldn’t reflexively deal with anything a beginner student threw at them. In fact, sometimes beginning students like to try and see if they can best the higher ranks... it rarely goes in the beginners favor!

The good news is that every single black belt in our school started as a white belt. They had to develop the reflexes through months and even years of drills... building one skill on top of the next. These are average men and women, mothers, professionals, not wannabe commandos - which means anyone can do what they have already accomplished.

My daughter had an itch. She loves soccer and wanted to go the next level from just backyard play. With the help of dad, she got a taste of what was to be expected without it being sugar coated to give her a false understanding.

If you to have an itch to know more about advancing your understanding of Self Defense I encourage you to stop by or contact Dynamic Self Defense Today! Learning Self Defense can be fun and provide excellent exercise as well... but it will take a level of dedication for you to master. With DSD, you have a whole team on your side to make sure you do!
